‘Greetings for the Day’ and other stories.

The other day one of my groupmates sent an email to a Professor (and cc’d us), and her greeting was ‘Greetings for the day’. It caught me off guard and I chuckled a little more than I should have (I had never seen one like that before on email), but I thought it was somewhat classy. So,

‘Greetings for the day!’ 😀

I don’t know what to say about today. A pattern is starting to appear. Quick Context: I really take pride in disciplining myself to sleep and wake up early. I feel like I’m an all-round much better person that way. I learnt the hard way in undergrad that not getting sleep is not it. This week, I haven’t been sleeping well. Between research and classes, I’m not handling things well. Even when I’m not in lab, I’m thinking about it. Not even about anything productive, just worrying the whole time about whether or not I’m doing enough. So, I’ve been sleeping late, waking up late, not having time to go through my morning routine (typically Wake up → Workout → Morning Devotional → Shower → Eat, but lately it’s been Wake up → Shower → Work). I’m not sure whether to accept this as my life for now, or try harder to maintain my routine (and possibly compromise how much I can do).

Anyway, something made me smile today. For context, one thing that really irritates me is when I’m in a class and the Professor is talking, but I hear students in the background having a FULL-ON conversation, sometimes talking louder than the Professor. I find it SO disrespectful, but it happens way too often. Today in class, the same thing happened; people casually chatted away while the Professor was teaching, and a student trying to ask a question literally had to shout over them. Next thing I knew, I heard a loud ‘HEY!’ from the back and we all turned. ‘SERIOUSLY GUYS THE PROFESSOR IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME BUT I CAN’T EVEN HEAR HIM.’ That voice was dripping with authority; it came from another student who was clearly as irritated as I was, but had the guts to do something about it. That entire class said 😶, and I said “🤭”. Stranger, you made my day.
